This Karaja rug draws a classic Persian medallion design but with the character and freedom of less formal village pieces. Stylized flowers blossom form thin branches within the field, medallion, and corner-pieces. Color is rich and beautiful. Shades of madder-red and indigo predominate as lighter tones of gold, rose, and sky blue are accented throughout. White is used expertly, highlighting details of the medalion and balancing the gravity of these central areas with the border.
