This Kazak rug was woven in the Caucasus in the late nineteenth century. Bold drawing exemplified by three octagonal medallions and a stepped geometric border is accented by equally bold color. The quality of the madder derived red is particularly noteworthy and the long, soft and lush pile a very desirable quality in these Caucasian weavings.
