Double animal bag sets, known as khorjin in Persian, were critical accoutrement for the village and tribal peoples of the Near East. Many were made as dowry objects and a tremendous sense of pride and care was put into their weaving. This set comes from western Persia. An abstract pattern, perhaps derived from vegetal tendrils, scrolls across a medium blue ground in colorful diagonals. Likewise, the looped fastening system is colorfully articulated imbuing an extra sense of beauty and charm to this very functional utilitarian object.
