Ningxia carpet

This elegant Chinese Ningxia carpet draws a central roundel composed of lotuses flanked by slightly smaller roundels of the same type in a 2-1-2 formation. The vine-scroll tracery interspersed throughout the field is well balanced and adds a second layer to this all-over composition. The lotus border is likewise exceedingly well-balanced, and the corner resolution is impeccable. Its ocher ground color is matched perfectly with the light camel ground of the field. Accents of red, gold, and indigo combine to render a rich autumnal sensibility.
