Serapi carpet

Serapi carpets from Northwest Persia are renowned for their rendering of floral and vegetal elements with a highly stylized bold but crisp sense of drawing. This dramatic Serapi draws colorful foliage in hues of gold, red, and green against an indigo ground. A central red rosette acts as a focal point from which other foliage and palmettes emanate. Though not using a central medallion, this is not a pure ‘all-over’ design type. Scale is perfect and an emphasis is placed on artful balance rather than pure symmetry.
