The shimmering diamonds of this Persian “eye dazzler” Veramin kilim create a depth defying psychedelic affect across a long and narrow canvas. Veramin is an old caravan town just outside of Tehran. Several tribal and ethnic groups settled here and in the 19th century, created a discernible local weaving style. The kilims of Veramin are less well known when compared to its pile weavings but both share some common features including, color palette and soft but durable wool. Interestingly, this piece uses the same weft-float brocade technique scattered throughout the field that many Veramin pile weavings employ as end finishes.
